Initially there was only one app that allowed you to do what Lightroom does now, but Adobe’s AIR and Flash technologies enabled the release of Lightroom 4 and now Lightroom 5, and allowed for the most novel feature–reviewers. Anyway, the new Pilot looks to be a worthy competitor to the new Apple Aperture 3, which I don’t love as much.

Photoshop has always been extremely good at almost anything, but it’s never been an easy application to learn. Photoshop CS6 is a top of the line, with more features than, say, the iPhone. But with so many to learn, you can pretty quickly get overwhelmed. Sure, Photoshop CS6 includes new features, like its Content-Aware Face-Fill, but a new CS is rarely different enough from a previous version to warrant a separate review from the old review. Despite the new features in that way, Photoshop CS6 is still a really great application that features a thoughtful interface and powerful editing tools.

Adobe has finally offered an update to Lightroom’s image management software that allows you to let other people look at your images. It’s nice to have an outlet to share your work with—maybe someday we’ll see you on Facebook or other social media sites.

There is a wide range of presets that can be applied to images using tools in the Lightroom panel. Many of the filters and adjustments available in the app are used to save the original shot. There is no need to apply or edit with Lightroom, but instead to flag images as editable in Photoshop or use Photoshop on its own to edit and modify images.

The interface is clean, revealing a lot more of the image editing process than Lightroom. Adobe Lightroom has a collection of presets and tools pre-built into the app, although Adobe Lightroom 2 is based on the mobile version of Adobe Lightroom, and new features won’t be available for the desktop version until the latest update.
