Finally, Lightroom made managing folders and backed up images a breeze and fixed many glitches that plagued the previous program. Lightroom did all this while still feeling fast and responsive. I have been using Lightroom for at least five years now, and I still love it. Adobe also produces Photoshop for users who want to do their editing in the loftier realm of more artistic endeavors, something which has unfortunately become less common with the Lightroom 2 conversion. This effectively closed the performance gap which previously hindered the evolution of Lightroom, and I believe that this led to Lightroom becoming the software of choice for a large percentage of photographers. Other than some minor inconsistencies in an older version of Photoshop, I was pleased with how the program has evolved over the years. If you’re wondering why some of these similar features like the Adjustment Brush just don’t work as well as they used to, it’s because professional grade RAW image editing is a bit more complicated than the average user might need. In any case, I enjoy many of the new features of Lightroom 3. Let me now use a few examples. I find myself often taking a RAW image and applying a custom preset and setting a couple of adjustments, even though I don’t usually use all that many different types of adjustments. By using custom presets in this way, even very subtle adjustments can be made with a minimum of fiddling. Advanced users can now make deep image adjustments, and there are now additional tools for use in the adjustment layer before tapping the OK button. In previous versions, it was not possible to save most adjustment settings, and this makes a great way to keep certain adjustments to be applied when using a similar type of image. I love the improved selection tools, and even the sloww-motion feature is one of the most useful in the more advanced Lightroom users.
