Digital cameras and the processing power to shoot and edit are in a perpetual cycle of development. While some manipulation may seem like a good idea, others fail badly. I think it’s premature to say that Photoshop is obsolete, but it is hard to imagine one today that doesn’t have some shortcomings.

I do use Adobe’s Photoshop and, thus, enjoy it. After enough time to sort out the chaos and nerve-wracking periods of learning the world’s complicated photo editing system, I’ve found ways to make the most of it. (And, I’ve certainly found ways to make the most of Photoshop when working on print projects.) The bad points are that I have to use it more often than I would like, and it just seems to have some problems (which may be fixed soon). (The biggest issue I’ve found is that it doesn’t tell you what a File Format is based on the name.)

Menu commands aren’t always intuitive, which can lead to the need to look things up to find out what they do. A lot of menus are filled with choices that are cryptic and in no particular order. Perhaps, both will be fixed and made to align with customer demand. Updates to stability and usability are a good idea.

>The focus here is on the photo editing aspect of Photoshop and its counterpart, Lightroom. Lightroom, the new marbles, can be installed side-by-side with Photoshop, and my findings so far are that they work fine together, but Lightroom does not do everything that Photoshop does yet. While not listed in the table below, Lightroom is included for use with Elements and Photoshop. (Some Elements 21 features are not available in Photoshop Elements.)
