Cracking Adobe Photoshop is not as straightforward as installing it. It requires a few steps to bypass the security measures that are in place. You get more bang for your buck from software packages that provide useful and polished functionality for standard tasks. Photoshop Elements does that, and it’s supported for five years. In the past, I’ve wound up buying as many boxed copy of Photoshop Elements as I needed, and the latest version comes with a 20% discount for today only, October 20, 2014 (which is free shipping for Amazon Prime members). With most photos needing little more than a simple fix of contrast, and a right cursor point, the new interface makes the basic editing doable by a single user, and it’s an ideal tool for first-adopters of digital photography and related image-editing software.

Compared to the full DTP and Photoshop programs, Elements offers a stripped-down array of features, including sharpness and noise-reduction tools; crop and rotate, plus a grid-based page-flipping tool; filters; layers; and a couple of small (but flexible) image-editing tools. Means there’s less clutter on the toolbars and not quite as much at the bottom of the screen. Also, there’s an easier way to manipulate frames of images, as by setting outer and inner edge points surrounding the image, or even selecting areas of the image. There’s also a reasonable set of advanced image-editing tools, including Detail Enhancer, Sharpening, and more.

The unit of an image file is not a pixel. The pixels of the image file are represented by what is called a raster. Each raster represents a single color, located at a single point. If you zoom in, the pixels get smaller and smaller. But if you want to edit something bigger, you need to use the raster as 1 unit.
