The first thing that you will notice about Adobe Photoshop is that it is quite big and has a lot of options. To get around this, you need to find the “Start” menu and then click “Preferences.” When the Preferences menu opens, click on the “Startup” tab and then click on “All Recent” to make sure that Photoshop starts quickly. This shows you all of the programs that are installed on your computer.

In the “Startup” tab, you can set Photoshop to open certain programs automatically when you start up your computer. For example, you can click on the “Windows Live” tab and then click on “Start” to make sure that it automatically opens. First, Adobe calls this Crop tool, but does it show you what your selection box will look like? Of course not. You have to guess what you’ll get. Photoshop Elements calls this Crop tool, but that’s just the way it goes. Just drag the corner bar in to make a selection, and you will get a center crop.

If you’re a computer-savvy consumer, you’ll know that a lot of things are new in this release. When you apply a filter, Photoshop Elements will import metadata to use as a basis for your filter settings so that you can see the effects of the settings as you perform them.

The most notable change is the new feature of “Overlay Lightbox” and “Two Way Lightbox”. The new overlay feature makes it possible to put a lightbox of an image you’re editing or previewing in the info area, a quick and easy way to avoid the need to work with a window that obscures your screen. The new overlay mode also removes the need to have to separate editing and preview windows. Assuming you’re at home, you simply click the info window button, then click the Overlay Lightbox button. The two new overlay features make it much easier to preview an image or to get a better look at edits. These are both positive steps in the right direction of expanding Lightroom’s utility as a tool.

Be sure that you perform these operations via the right tool. If you inadvertently apply the wrong effect, you can usually undo the changes but not the image’s color channel data. Lightroom 5’s new tools make it easy to correct muted colors and whites (excessive light or dark areas). Both tools can be used in the Studio or any of the other editing modes (selectively desaturate, lighten, colorize, etc.).

Finally there are different new effects and you can find them in the tool box > Adjustment layer category.One of my favorite effects is the special effect called Super Resize. You can find this new feature by clicking the crescent moon icon in the tool box > Adjustment feature category. Then the Program Settings subcategory will open up. Then scroll to down as ‘Resize image then Pixel Bender.’ You can choose the size that you want to reduce the image to and you will also have options for how to stretch the image and you can choose between different presets.

You can also find it in the tool box > Adjustment feature category. The effect is right in the middle somehow. Photoshop sometimes creates a lot of continuity mistakes even when you are very careful. But by using this feature, you will be able to fix most of those mistakes quickly and easily. Just click on the crop tool from the tool box and go into the Crop Palette section and you will see the image below. Just choose the area that you want to keep and then set your crop to Pixel Bender. Photoshop will take care of everything else.

Another new effect feature is highlights and shadows. The highlights and shadows have their own effect controls. You can find them in the dialog box that opens only if you want to change the effect. The dialog box can be opened by going to the dialog box > Adjustment dialogue box. You will also open up an equalization option. So you can check it out and see what it does.
